English as an additional language

At Barnfield, we value the languages and experiences that all our children bring from very many parts of the world. The ability to speak languages other than English is a great advantage and something we seek to celebrate and use.

Many of our children are bilingual and therefore, we ensure that our curriculum reflects the multicultural nature of our school. Support is provided to ensure that all children settle into the school. Children who have little or no English are supported by our EMAG (Ethnic Minority) Co-ordinator to ensure that this process is successful.

We are always eager to develop a global perspective for all of our children through Multi-Faith assemblies.

One of the highlights of the school year is our International Evening. This is a celebration of the many different cultures that make up the school and is a night of food, dancing and music from around the world. Parents, children and staff are involved, it is a real whole school evening. An event not to be missed!
