RE
At Barnfield, the RE and Worldviews curriculum is based upon the agreed Barnet Syllabus for Religious Education (September 2024) where Ann Taves poses six Big Questions, guiding the children to explore meaning, belief, identity and values. These questions have been designed so that the children are given the opportunity to think deeply about the world around them – developing curiosity, empathy and reflective thinking as they learn about a wide range of religions and worldviews.
Our curriculum is designed to be inclusive to allow children to build respect for the varying beliefs. It also introduces children to a whole spectrum of religious and non-religious worldviews, supporting them in understanding how different communities make sense of life and the world around them.
Within our RE and Worldviews curriculum, we place an emphasis on Vocabulary, Artefacts and Texts. Each year group goes on an Educational Visit to a place of worship and we encourage visitors from all faiths and beliefs to converse with our children. By using this approach our children build a secure, well-informed understanding of each religion and worldview.
Our teaching aligns closely with the Fundamental British Values, promoting respect, tolerance, individual liberty and an appreciation for diversity. Through enquiry and thoughtful discussion, children develop skills to communicate respectfully and reflect on their own differing perspectives whilst also forming reasoned viewpoints.
Barnfield’s RE and Worldviews curriculum equips children with the knowledge and critical thinking skills needed to navigate an increasingly interconnected world.
