Ofsted

Ofsted

As you will almost certainly be aware, Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They inspect and regulate services that care for children and young people, and services providing education and skills for learners of all ages. At Barnfield, we were inspected in June 2024 and we are pleased to report that we were judged to be a good school.

Barnfield was last inspected in 2013 were it was judged to be Outstanding. Since 2013, the inspection framework has changed considerably and there has been many changes here at Barnfield.

We are incredibly proud, as I am sure you will be, of the report and the things the inspectors told us about the school, the staff and the children. I was delighted that they recognised how brilliant our pupils are:

“Pupils behave well and show respect to adults and their peers. As a result, pupils feel safe and are kept safe at school. Pupils behave well in lessons and around the school. This is because expectations and routines are well established and consistently applied”

PI was thrilled that the inspectors could see the effective learning environment teachers and students have created:

“Pupils enjoy learning at Barnfield. Leaders are ambitious for all pupils to succeed. Leaders have designed a curriculum that matches the breadth and ambition of what is required nationally”

It was reassuring that the inspectors could see that our pupils are safe in school and that we are a truly inclusive school:

“Effective systems are in place to identify pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Leaders ensure information is shared promptly with staff. This enables teachers to make appropriate adaptations to support pupils to access the curriculum and learn well.”

I was glad that, as well as wanting our students to achieve academically, we believe and focus on the development of the whole child:

“Pupils’ personal development is well considered… Careful thought is given, not only to the academic curriculum, but also how pupils develop as individuals… The school provides pupils with a wide range of leadership opportunities.”

It is an honour and privilege to be in a position where the work that we do on a daily basis has the power to shape lives. It was humbling that external inspectors could see how wonderful our school is and spoke so highly of our staff and community.
