CUSP Science Curriculum
Our science curriculum has been thoughtfully designed to reflect our core values of being ambitious, curious, creative, healthy, and empathetic learners. It encourages pupils to explore the world with wonder, ask meaningful questions, and seek evidence-based answers through active engagement and exploration.
Built on the PLAN Progression in Knowledge, the National Curriculum, and Development Matters, our curriculum ensures sequential, layered learning from early years through to the end of primary school. This structure supports steady progression in both knowledge and skills.
To support language development and scientific literacy, the curriculum incorporates tier 2 (high-frequency academic) and tier 3 (subject-specific) vocabulary, which is explicitly taught and revisited to deepen understanding.
Each unit includes rich opportunities for pupils to engage in one or more of the five key types of scientific enquiry:
- Researching using secondary sources
- Pattern seeking
- Observing over time
- Comparative and fair testing
- Identifying, classifying, and grouping
These experiences help pupils to develop and apply their working scientifically skills, enabling them to investigate scientific enquiry questions and build a deeper, connected understanding of the world around them.
